In April and May of 2009 I traveled down to Mexico and backpacked through Mexico and Guatemala. I spent about 2 months there and was able to photograph 4 completed temples and 1 under construction. I photographed this one, Merida Mexico, and also, Villahermosa Mexico, Tuxtla Gutierrez Mexico, Quetzaltenango Guatemala (under construction), and Guatemala City Guatemala. It was a great chance for me to get out and work more towards my goal. When I originally set out on my trip I didn’t realize I would be able to get that many, but with a couple of detours (and hours on buses) I was able to get closer to my goal of photographing all the temples.
I love how sometimes things just seem to line up and go smoothly. Of all the temples I photographed on my trip, Merida was by far my favorite. I was able to spend a little more time at it then the others because I was there for a few days, unlike Villahermosa, where I came in on a bus, hopped in a cab, spent 30 minutes at the temple and then headed back to the bus station. When you spend that little time, you kind of have to take what you get. But with Merida I was able to wait for better lighting and I really liked what I got. I hope you enjoy them.
