In April and May of 2009 I traveled down to Mexico and backpacked through Mexico and Guatemala. I spent about 2 months there and was able to photograph 4 completed temples and 1 under construction. I photographed this one, Merida Mexico, and also, Villahermosa Mexico, Tuxtla Gutierrez Mexico, Quetzaltenango Guatemala (under construction), and Guatemala City Guatemala. It was a great chance for me to get out and work more towards my goal. When I originally set out on my trip I didn’t realize I would be able to get that many, but with a couple of detours (and hours on buses) I was able to get closer to my goal of photographing all the temples.
I love how sometimes things just seem to line up and go smoothly. Of all the temples I photographed on my trip, Merida was by far my favorite. I was able to spend a little more time at it then the others because I was there for a few days, unlike Villahermosa, where I came in on a bus, hopped in a cab, spent 30 minutes at the temple and then headed back to the bus station. When you spend that little time, you kind of have to take what you get. But with Merida I was able to wait for better lighting and I really liked what I got. I hope you enjoy them.

In my recent travels through Mexico and Guatemala I studied Spanish for a few weeks in Quetzaltenango (AKA Xela) Guatemala. Xela is the site of a new temple being built. I rented a bike one day and rode up to the location of the new temple that overlooks the city and has a view of 3 volcanoes off in the distance. Here is a picture of the work that was being done as they had just broken ground a few weeks earlier.

Here are some pics of the Oquirrh Mountain Temple. I have been a photographer for about 13-14 years, however I just recently switched over to digital. I have learned these important little digital lessons along the way. For example, one of the great things about digital is the ability to switch ISO’s in between pictures. What isn’t so fun is when you forget to switch back. You will see that on the first picture it is very noisy/grainy. This is because I had my ISO set too high from a previous shoot. I wanted to include it anyway just so you could see the sunset that I missed getting hight quality pictures of.
If you are a photographer, don’t forget to check your WHIMS before you start shooting. White Balance, Histogram, ISO, Mode (Aperture Priority, Manual, etc.) and Size (JPEG, RAW, etc.)
I went on a road trip to Oregon recently. Along the way I shot this temple, Twin Falls Idaho Temple, Boise Idaho Temple, and the Portland Oregon Temple. I was able to check another 4 off of my list, which was awesome. The only problem is they just announced 5 more the other day. I better get back to work.
Here are the Oquirrh Mountain Pics:
